But do masks actually capture particles that small?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading has-text-align-center\">Is Asbestos Mask Effective At Filtering Asbestos?<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.nature.com\/jes\/journal\/vaop\/ncurrent\/abs\/jes201642a.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">This study from the University of Massachusetts<\/a>&nbsp;tested what percentage of particles of different sizes masks can capture. Here\u2019s what they found:<\/p>\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\">\n<figure class=\"aligncenter is-resized\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/qph.cf2.quoracdn.net\/main-qimg-ceb311a042c3741173488d845589b99b-pjlq\" alt=\"Masks for asbestos\" style=\"width:auto;height:400px\" \/><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n<p>The closest size to 0.7 microns here is 500 nm and 1 um. (More\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/smartairfilters.com\/en\/blog\/masks-really-work\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">mask test data down to .007 microns here<\/a>.) <\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading has-text-align-center\">Does N95 Protect Against Asbestos?<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>The standard N95 mask on the left captured over 90% of both of these particle sizes.
