I&#8217;m assuming this is packaging, and not part of the filter? 2- Are these HEPA filters washable? Many thanks!<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Hi Joshua,<\/p>\n<p>Good questions! The <a href=\"https:\/\/smartairfilters.com\/manuals\/DIY-purifiers-English.pdf\">DIY pamphlet<\/a> that goes along with the Cannon helps answer these two questions, so hopefully that&#8217;ll make it clearer! But here are the answers:<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li><strong>What\u2019s the pre-filter for?<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-600\" src=\"http:\/\/smartairfilters.com\/cn\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/3\/2016\/06\/1-27.png\" alt=\"1\" width=\"249\" height=\"166\" \/><\/p>\n<p>The pre-filter goes behind the HEPA filter, and it catches the larger dust particles so that the HEPA will last longer. We don\u2019t include pre-filters on the Original DIY because the fan isn\u2019t as strong as the Cannon.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<ol start=\"2\">\n<li><strong>Can I wash the HEPA?<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>Some manufacturers claim that their HEPAs are washable, but <a href=\"https:\/\/smartairfilters.com\/en\/blog\/wash-clean-hepa\/\">we actually tested it<\/a>. We tested dirty HEPA filters, washed some, vacuumed some, and tested them again. Unfortunately the answer was no. HEPAs are not washable.
