These filters are huge, 10-20 times the size of our DIY purifier filters in fact. How did they come up with that number? Is that based on actual data? Is that lifespan for Beijing air, or Swiss air? Is that assuming the machine is running 24 hours a day or 8 hours a day?<\/p>\n<p>Smart Air\u2019s ethos is to use solid data to answer questions like this and let you know <em><strong>how<\/strong><\/em> we know what we know. So I set to work testing the lifespan of the Blast and Blast Mini.<\/p>\n<h3 style=\"text-align: center;\">An 11-Year Test?<\/h3>\n<p>We have real-world longevity test data from with the <span><a href=\"https:\/\/smartairfilters.com\/en\/product\/diy-1-1-air-purifier\/\">Original DIY<\/a><\/span> HEPA filters. We tested the DIY HEPA <span><a href=\"https:\/\/smartairfilters.com\/en\/blog\/hepa-longevity-test-day-200\/\">every day for 200 days<\/a><\/span>. But these Blast HEPAs are BIG. Short of running 11 years of testing, there are two steps we can take to estimate the lifespan:<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>Extrapolate from the data in our real-world 200-day test. Fellow stats nerds can read about that <a href=\"https:\/\/smartairfilters.com\/en\/blog\/how-long-do-hepa-filters-really-last-supplemental-article\/\">here<\/a>.<\/li>\n<li>Test purifiers that have been used in real Beijing air for the past 12 months.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<h3 style=\"text-align: center;\">Real-Life Blast HEPA Lifespan Test<\/h3>\n<p>We tested two Blasts, one that\u2019s been giving the Smart Air office clean air for the past 12 months at 8 hours per day (2,880 hours) and a Blast that was used in a Beijing caf\u00e9 for 3 months at 16 hours per day (1,440 hours). The two methods came up with nearly identical conclusions. Go math!<\/p>\n<h3 style=\"text-align: center;\">Conclusion<\/h3>\n<p>In real Beijing air, the Blast HEPA lifespan should last approximately <strong>22 months<\/strong> (running the high setting at 8 hours a day). The Blast Mini filter lifespan is approximately <strong>13 months<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<h3 style=\"text-align: center;\">Adjusting the HEPA Lifespan to Your Own Use<\/h3>\n<p>If you\u2019re using the purifiers for a longer or shorter time per day, you can use the table below to adjust the number of months to your situation. If you\u2019re using either purifier in a smaller space than the rated 89m<sup>2<\/sup> (Blast Mini) and 114m<sup>2<\/sup> (Blast), then the HEPAs may well last even longer!
