However, the improvement seems to go even farther back, since data <a href=\"https:\/\/wedocs.unep.org\/bitstream\/handle\/20.500.11822\/27645\/airPolCh_EN.pdf?sequence=1&amp;isAllowed=y\">stretching back to 1998<\/a> shows improvement even in the decade before the action plan.<\/p>\n<p>However, Beijing&#8217;s progress is slowing down. Beijing cut 16 micrograms in 2017, 10 micrograms in 2018, and just 5 micrograms in 2019. This could be a sign that the easiest fixes have already been made and that the remaining fixes may be harder to execute.<\/p>\n<h3 style=\"text-align: center\">\u00a0Guangzhou<\/h3>\n<p>Guangzhou saw an 8.8% decrease in 2019.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/01\/DI73261-300x165.png\" alt=\"Guangzhou air pollution 2014-2019\" width=\"600\" height=\"330\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-9201\" srcset=\"https:\/\/smartairfilters.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/01\/DI73261-300x165.png 300w, https:\/\/smartairfilters.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/01\/DI73261-768x423.png 768w, https:\/\/smartairfilters.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/01\/DI73261.png 940w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 600px) 100vw, 600px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>One of China\u2019s most important automobile manufacturing hubs, Guangzhou has moved to <a href=\"http:\/\/www.xinhuanet.com\/english\/2017-05\/30\/c_136325731.htm#0-twi-1-26633-7250227817ecdff034dc9540e6c76667%C3%9F\">make cars on its streets greener<\/a>. By 2020, the city plans to replace all gasoline-fueled buses with pure electric buses and encourage more electric vehicles by lowering purchase and maintenance prices, as well as increase charging stations.<\/p>\n<h2 style=\"text-align: center\">These Cities Saw Worse Air<\/h2>\n<h3 style=\"text-align: center\">Xi\u2019an<\/h3>\n<p>Despite <a href=\"https:\/\/journals.sagepub.com\/doi\/pdf\/10.1177\/1420326X17742007\">recent efforts<\/a>, Xi&#8217;an PM2.5 was up 9.7% in 2019.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/01\/DI186A1-300x163.png\" alt=\"Xi\u2019an air pollution 2014-2019\" width=\"600\" height=\"326\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-9204\" srcset=\"https:\/\/smartairfilters.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/01\/DI186A1-300x163.png 300w, https:\/\/smartairfilters.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/01\/DI186A1-768x417.png 768w, https:\/\/smartairfilters.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/01\/DI186A1.png 940w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 600px) 100vw, 600px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>One potential reason is insufficient gas supply infrastructure, making Xi&#8217;an still <a href=\"https:\/\/www.asiapacific.ca\/blog\/smog-choked-ancient-capital-facing-xians-air-quality-issue\">heavily reliant on coal<\/a>.
