The QT3 was designed to provide a bubble of clean air around the breather on the go. As such, the gaps between the filter and the QT3 HEPA filter were intentionally designed so as to increase the airflow from the QT3 air purifier, to increase the bubble size.<\/p>\n\n\n

<\/figure><\/div>\n\n\nIf the HEPA filter was sealed to the frame of the QT3, then the airflow would be reduced for those using the QT3 as a cooling fan. Dyson’s air purifiers use essentially the same ‘technology’ in their purifier fans, calling it the ‘air multiplier technology<\/a>‘. They market it as providing an increased airflow that can clean a bigger space, similar to increasing the size of the QT3’s clean air ‘bubble’.<\/p>\n\n\n\n BUT the gap between the filter and the fan was unnerving, especially if you\u2019re concerned about sitting downstream from a COVID carrier. So we listened to the concern, have now developed the side strip and will be shipping it out as a retrofit to users. <\/p>\n\n\n\n By not using CADR as a measure, closing the gap is more effective at clearing the air of particles. At 50cm, the effectiveness of filtering PM0.3 microns was 43.1% with no gap, vs 25.3% with a gap.<\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n Take clean, cool, portable, personal stream of filtered air on the move \u2013 and if you need to use the QT3 as a cooling fan, just pop out the strips!<\/p>\n\n\n\n
