Are HEPA filters effective against COVID?<\/strong><\/h2>\n

A common concern is whether HEPA filters can filter viruses like the COVID-19 coronavirus. HEPA filters removes particles greater than or equal to 0.3 microns<\/span>, but virus particles are smaller. The coronavirus measures 0.06 to 0.14 microns <\/span>in diameter. Are air purifiers then powerless against viruses?<\/p>\n

How often should I change the HEPA?<\/strong><\/h2>\n

We tested a HEPA in real Beijing air for 200 days to get a sense of how long HEPAs last in real Beijing air.<\/a><\/p>\n

Based on that data, Paddy estimated a HEPA lifespan of 5280 hours<\/strong> for the Blast. This is roughly equal to 22 months<\/strong> at 8 hours of use every day. Can I wash a dirty HEPA filter?<\/strong><\/h2>\n

Unfortunately not.<\/b> We ran experiments to test this and found that washing HEPA filters does not prolong their lifespan<\/a>. In fact, washing HEPA filters with water actually decreases<\/b> performance. That\u2019s why we recommend you replace your Blast HEPA filter after the maximum hours of use.<\/p>\n
