我最近注意到北京街头好多人戴着一款名叫Pitta的日本口罩。一个Pitta口罩能用多久？真的能防雾霾吗？为了测试它的效果和寿命，我们做了实验。
Pitta口罩看起来表面很光滑，所以我在心里打鼓不知道这种口罩有没有用。毕竟日本的空气质量总体而言比中国好太多了，所以这口罩可能不是为了微小的PM2.5设计的，而是为了时尚，或者过滤花粉之类的大颗粒物设计的。
日本Pitta口罩的价格
我在淘宝上花64块钱买了3个Pitta口罩，大概是21块钱一个，而我们实验亲测超级有效的3M9010，一个只要3块钱。相比之下，日本的Pitta口罩可是比3M的9010贵太多了。
日本Pitta口罩的外形
刚拿到Pitta的时候，它的外表、材质、触感，和我手边的3M口罩完全不一样。
Pitta里面没有滤网，完全是聚氨酯材质，就是做海绵的那种材料。而3M这种N95口罩里面都会有一个静电过滤网。
测试日本Pitta口罩防雾霾效果
我对3M的9502，9501，还有这款新买的日本Pitta口罩进行了颗粒物捕捉效果测试。我在一个封闭房间里点燃香烟模拟室外的污染环境，然后用风扇把脏空气推过口罩，再用颗粒物测试仪在口罩前面测试通过口罩的空气。我测试了0.3微米和2.5微米的颗粒物，因为这种微小的颗粒物会进入我们的肺部和血管，对身体产生危害。
测试使用的仪器是Met One GT-521。这款测试仪和Met One BAM是同一家公司做的。Met One BAM是美国环境保护协会室外空气质量监测使用的机器。
日本Pitta口罩防雾霾测试结果
结果特别差。
日本Pitta口罩对于0.3微米的颗粒物完全无能为力， 竟然是0%的捕捉率。而对2.5微米的颗粒物，过滤效果也只有64%。但是，即使是最普通的医疗口罩，在过滤PM2.5上的表现也好过日本的Pitta。而3M口罩的过滤效果是90%以上。
这是个意外吗？该不会是测试方法有问题吧？AQ Blue是一家做针对空气污染口罩的公司，他们也对Pitta做了实验，用的是不同的设备，而结果却几乎相同。
日本Pitta口罩的优势
Pitta也不是完全不好，他们的官方网站也从来没有声称过这款口罩是针对PM2.5设计的。
Pitta声称这款口罩可以过滤掉99%的花粉和尘土，也就是直径在5-100微米的颗粒物。
我们的测试仪不测10微米的颗粒物，但是会显示5微米的颗粒物。Pitta过滤掉86%的5微米颗粒物，所以对直径10微米或以上的颗粒物，Pitta的效果应该会更好，也就是说Pitta的效果很可能就是像它官方宣传的那样。
不过我们没有进行人脸贴合实验，所以用户还需要把Pitta口罩的贴合性也纳入考量。
花粉过敏在日本是个大问题，所以Pitta很可能对这类人群非常有用。问题是，中国人佩戴口罩更多是为了过滤空气污染物，所以他们可能会误会Pitta口罩能帮助他们防止雾霾的危害。
Pitta也说他们的口罩材料是可以水洗，并且可以反复利用多达3次。这样听起来它的高价格可能就有点道理了，不过他们并没有提供水洗口罩或者反复利用3次这个做法和数据的依据。我们对此存疑是因为过往我们的实验证实，水洗HEPA滤网是会降低HEPA的过滤效果的。
雾霾须知：日本Pitta口罩可以捕捉大的颗粒物，比如花粉。不过它对0.3微米的颗粒物完全无能为力。
所以在中国使用Pitta口罩实在不是一个明智之选。
生活在像中国或印度空气污染严重的国家的伙伴们应该选择科学实验支持的高效过滤污染物的口罩。

I just purchased from the Lazada Thailand website the Pitta “Japanese Face Mask Corona Virus Mask Dust Mask Washable Reusable Face Mask From Japan (Pack of 3)” I read your report make perfect sense to me that it would not be safe to use to protect my family from the Coronavirus – I went to the manufacturers web site they also do not mention / confirm the use at all for virus or bacteria.
How can resale vendors get away with this?

We would suggest you use either surgical masks or N95/N99 masks (or equivalent FFP2 or FFP3) masks. They will provide the best protection. Unfortunately many washable masks offer much lower levels of protection, and in fact washing could damage the mask’s ability to filter out tiny particles. More info here:

Since you have bought the pitta masks from taobao, are you sure they are authentic pitta masks?
Hi Pamela, good question. Taobao can have a lot of fakes. We purchased the Pitta mask from the official Small/Taobao store, so we are confident it’s genuine. Moreover, our test results actually agree with what the official store says – that it is highly effective against PM10 larger particles. Unfortunately the Pitta marketing have just left out the information that they are less effective for smaller particle sizes.
