  1. How about those nano-fiber masks made in Korea (KF94)? They claim that it can be sanitized with alcohol. Do you have a research about these masks effectiveness?

    • Great question Myk. the KF94 masks are actually very similar to N95 masks. We have an article explaining the difference between N95 and KF94 masks here. In short, they’re so similar that the tests done here will likely apply for KF94 masks also. We wouldn’t recommend you use alcohol to sanitize KF94 masks.

  2. Dear Smartairfilters, it would be great if you could address the new scientific papers https://doi.org/10.1016/j.eng.2020.04.003 and https://doi.org/10.1016/j.eng.2020.05.016 which claim that it is possible to regenerate the static charge by drying the mask with a hair dryer. Also I would support the request by Doris and Mike that it would be helpful if you could test by sprying alcohol, possibly ethyl alcohol, and not dipping the mask in alcohol, and then let the alcohol evaporate, hoping that in this way it might leave the charge intact.

  3. What if you just spray the masks with alcohol instead of dunking them in. Might protect the mask and still work a bit better.

  4. It would be a great help to everyone if you test spraying a disposable mask with (a) alcohol (Ethyl Alcohol and Isopropyl alcohol) and (b) with Hydrogen Peroxide.

  5. Just for a non med. user, could one just spray the n95 with alcohol inside and out and let them dry in hot air

  6. I spray my lone N95 with a 99.9 % Ethel Alcohol spray – Hopefully it’s still effective to go grocery shopping – but it does remove doors- I also leave it in my truck where it receives the Light if the sun ~ which I believe assists in the decontamination process

    Any comments would be appreciated

    • We’re yet to run tests on how many times you can disinfect N95 masks with alcohol. However, the data in this article shows that disinfecting masks with alcohol can reduce their performance at capturing virus-sized particles around 5%. Based on this, you can decide when you think it’s safest to replace your mask!
