Project: Breathe Safe Hang In at Regional Lead School for the Arts in Angono

From February 28 to March 1, 2024, Smart Air Philippines launched its Project: Breathe Safe Hang In at the Regional Lead School for the Arts in Angono (RLSAA), with the aim of raising awareness about air quality and pollution in the RLSAA community.

During the first day of the event, Smart Air Philippines initiated the Hang In Exhibit, preceded by a Clean Air Workshop, which was attended by nearly 200 RLSAA students.

Mr. Shelumiel Beltran, the Workshop Outreach and Testing Guru of Smart Air Philippines, discussed how air pollution affects people’s health and outlined simple solutions to reduce and prevent its impact on both human health and the environment. He also conducted a brief demonstration on creating a Do-It-Yourself Air Purifier, showcasing its effectiveness using only a fan and HEPA filter.

On the second day, as part of this project, a mural artwork was created at a selected area in RLSAA, led by Smart Air Philippines in collaboration with the RLSAA OIC and Visual Arts Adviser, Mr. Reinier C. Balingit. The mural painting activity involved 18 visual arts students from junior high school.

The mural artwork was painted using paints with “air purifying technology” that captures noxious air pollutants in the air, and paints that are odorless and low in VOC (volatile organic compounds).

In an interview with some volunteer artists, they talked about the message they aimed to convey through their artwork and how they felt about participating in the activity.

“…Ang pinapadalang message po ng artwork na ito ay kahit po maliit lang po na change sa mga actions ng mga tao ay pwede pong makatulong po na ma-lessen po yung effects ng air pollution,” said by the visual art volunteer, Ariz Danielle Balais, a grade __ student.

Translation: The message that this artwork conveys is that even a small change in people’s actions can really help to lessen the effects of air pollution.

“…Masaya po ako kasi po, ginagawa po namin itong message ito para po iparating po sa mundo na dapat po bawasan natin yung (impacts) air pollution and gumawa po tayo ng way. Let’s do our best po,” said the visual art volunteer, Jhon Ted Deang, a grade __ student.

Translation: “I am happy because we are doing this message to tell the world that we need to reduce the (impacts) of air pollution and create a way. Let’s do our best.”

The artists finished creating the mural artworks on the third day of the event. Smart Air Philippines conducted a small program to award certificates of appreciation to the volunteer artists and RLSAA.

The program was attended by RLSAA’s Principal, Ms. Rhenelee S. Ramos, OIC and Visual Arts Adviser, Mr. Renier C. Balingit, Adapt-School Coordinator, Mr. John Mark S. Andales, and all volunteer artists.

Smart Air Philippines truly appreciates the participation of the Regional Lead School for the Arts in Angono in promoting clean air advocacy and helping to encourage more people to be part of the solution, not the pollution.
