Smart Air UK recently participated in the UK’s premier Infection Prevention & Control (IPC) Conference, a two-day event that brought together over 600 IPC professionals, microbiologists, and healthcare leaders to explore the latest research and advancements in infection control.
As a proud sponsor, Smart Air was excited to support an event that continues to drive awareness and innovation in the fight against infectious diseases.

Infection Prevention & Control Conference in Birmingham
Held annually, the conference features expert-led seminars and keynote speakers. Among this year’s sessions is “Preventing Airborne Transmission”, presented by Rose Gallagher MBE, Professional Lead for Sustainability at the Royal College of Nursing, and Dr. Evonne Curran, Retired Nurse Consultant in Infection Prevention and Control. Drawing on pandemic-era aerosol science, they discuss how these insights can reshape IPC practice, education, and policy better to protect patients, residents, and the public.
This topic aligns with the focus of three to four exhibitors, including Smart Air, whose work centers on effective air cleaning solutions.

Smart Technology: Thermal Imaging Sensor
Visitors to the Smart Air booth were drawn to the Akara wall-mounted thermal imaging sensor, which visualized room occupancy in real time. This advanced sensor not only detects how many people are in a space, it also actively controls Smart Air air purifiers to optimize efficiency.

NHS Net Zero Goals: A New Challenge for Infection Control
The conference also focused on the NHS’s ambitious net zero goals, which aim to make it the world’s first net-zero healthcare system by 2045. Balancing effective infection control with energy efficiency is now more challenging than ever.
While increased mechanical ventilation is one approach, it comes with significant energy costs. In contrast, scalable, low-energy solutions like HEPA air purifiers offer a more sustainable path forward. When equipped with Akara’s sensor and lifespan module, these purifiers become smarter and even more energy-efficient.
As indoor air quality becomes a key pillar of IPC strategy, Smart Air is proud to support healthcare professionals in their mission to create safer indoor environments for everyone.
