Cleaner, greener air - Smart Air UK rolls out London’s largest classroom clean air programme

Part of the Mayor’s School Filters Programme 

Smart Air UK has begun delivering high-performance air filters and air quality monitors to more than 200 schools across London as part of the Mayor of London’s £2.7 million School Filters Programme. Independent testing by WSP on behalf of the GLA showed the Blast filters cut classroom pollution by up to 68%.

Each unit is designed specifically for classrooms, combining powerful clean air delivery, long filter lifespan and low noise levels. The GLA’s decision to back HEPA-only filtration ensures children breathe safer, cleaner air while avoiding unproven ionising technologies.

Deliveries are being managed by Mango Logistics Group, using a fully electric vehicle fleet to minimise emissions. Installations include unboxing, setup, pre-programmed timers (8:30–16:30, Mon–Fri) and collection of all packaging for recycling, giving schools immediate, hassle-free access to clean air.

Walk Wheels Cycle Trust (formerly Sustrans) is working directly with schools to provide clean air workshops for teachers and students, helping young people understand air pollution and how to reduce exposure.

The programme also includes AirGradient monitors, the same open-source, research-grade technology used in the SAMHE project. WSP is leading data capture and monitoring, providing real-time insights into classroom air quality improvements.
