Press Release

Smart Air UK leads clean air deliveries to London schools

Part of the Mayor’s School Filters Programme

Smart Air UK (T/A Airbon Ltd.) is proud to be a part of the Mayor’s School Filters Programme to deliver air filters and air quality monitors to more than 200 London schools. This initiative is a major step forward in the Mayor of London’s efforts to tackle air pollution in schools. By providing each classroom with high-performance air filters, Smart Air UK is helping create healthier learning environments for thousands of children across the capital.

Smart Air UK will supply and install the Blast and Blast Mini air filters, designed for classrooms and large indoor spaces. All deliveries will be via electric vehicles using Mango Logistics, who will set up the units and remove all packaging for recycling. This ensures that every step of the process reflects the programme’s commitment to sustainability.

Supporting healthier classrooms

The Blast and Blast Mini are commercial-grade HEPA air filters designed specifically for classrooms and large indoor spaces. They deliver high-performance filtration with low noise levels, so lessons can continue without disruption. Smart Air’s affordable, data-driven air purifiers have already helped thousands worldwide breathe cleaner air. Through this initiative, schools will benefit from:

  • High efficiency air filtration: Smart Air’s air filters will help remove harmful pollutants, including fine particulate matter (PM2.5) and allergens, improving classroom air quality.
  • Healthier learning environments: Cleaner air reduces exposure to harmful pollutants, supporting student well-being, concentration, and overall academic performance.

Sharon Isaac-Upton, Head of Smart Air UK said:

We’re proud to lead this important project bringing clean air to schools across London. Our focus is on practical action - delivering, setting up and recycling so schools can start benefiting from cleaner air straight away. This programme is about helping young people breathe easier while supporting a greener London.

Real experiences from schools and families

A study conducted by Dr. Catherine Finnis and Tim Finnis, a medical statistician, at Dover College, a small prep school in Dover, Kent, found strong evidence that HEPA filtration significantly reduced illness-related absences. The classroom equipped with HEPA filters saw a 47% reduction in absences compared with those without filters.

The data is from a small school of around 50 pupils, so conclusions are limited. However, it supports the wider body of global evidence showing that HEPA filters in education settings can help reduce illness-related absences.

Dr. Catherine Finnis, a parent involved in the study said:

We’ve had a Mini Blast in our child’s classroom since 2022. Last winter, when other classes were hit by flu, ours stayed healthy. I told them it wasn’t luck;it was the HEPA filter doing its job.

Teachers involved in early deliveries have also noted how straightforward the process is, with units arriving ready to plug in and use immediately.

Making clean air accessible

Alongside the London initiative, Smart Air UK has developed a School Pack, giving schools across the UK affordable options to buy or lease air filters for as little as £0.70 per pupil. The aim is to make clean air more accessible and affordable for all schools, not only those included in the programme.

Dr. Rae Duncan, World Health Network said:

Clean air protects health. Installing air filtration in schools, hospitals, and workplaces reduces illness from airborne infectious diseases including Covid and Long Covid, limits exposure to pollution, and keeps communities healthier. It is one of the simplest steps we can take to create safer indoor spaces. Breathing clean air should be a human right not a privilege.

A broader commitment to clean air

Smart Air UK’s work on this project builds on its growing role as a provider of evidence-based air filtration and clean air education. The company continues to support schools, businesses, and homes across the country with low-noise, high-efficiency air filters designed to help people take control of their indoor air quality. By combining technical expertise with sustainable delivery practices, Smart Air UK is helping London schools take a meaningful step toward cleaner, healthier environments for children and staff.
