SA700 - FAQs

What is the SA700?

The SA700 is a high-performance air purifier designed for schools, clinics, offices, and other shared spaces. It delivers up to 498 m³/h of clean air while using just 10 watts of power with the HEPA H14 filter and unpo 720 m³/h of clean air while using 12 watts of power on HEPA E11, combining strong filtration performance with exceptionally low running costs.

In the UK, the SA700 comes standard with an H14 HEPA filter. In some other countries, the product may be sold with an E11 filter as standard. If higher CADR and airflow are preferred, you can choose to buy the E11 replacement filters separately.

How much electricity does the SA700 use?

The SA700 uses only 10 W, even at full performance. Running it continuously 24/7 for a full year uses approximately 88 kWh per year, costing approximately £25–27 annually.

That is similar to the power usage of a Wi‑Fi router or a small LED light running all year.

How much does the SA700 cost to run?

Based on typical UK electricity prices, running the SA700 continuously at 10 W would cost around £25 to £27 per year, or roughly £2.10 to £2.25 per month.

Why is the SA700 more energy efficient than most air purifiers?

The SA700 uses a carefully engineered 9-fan airflow system that maximises airflow while minimising energy consumption. Most conventional air purifiers use 40 to 80 W or more, while the SA700 achieves high clean air delivery at just 10 W.

Does the SA700 use a true HEPA filter?

Yes. The SA700 is available with H14 HEPA filter at the moment but we will also stock E11 replacement filters in the next couple of months. The H14 version is certified to EN1822 standards.

What does H14 HEPA filtration mean, and why does it matter?

H14 is the highest classification of HEPA filter — the same grade used in hospitals, operating theatres, and pharmaceutical cleanrooms. It captures at least 99.995% of airborne particles down to 0.1–0.3 microns, including bacteria, virus carriers, fine dust, and allergens.

Most consumer air purifiers use H13 or lower; the SA700's H14 filter means meaningfully cleaner air, particularly important in high-occupancy environments like classrooms and open-plan offices.

Why are there different lifespans listed for filters?

The lifespan of a filter is based on the pollution levels. Filter replacement lights are usually based on polluted countries like China but the air in the UK is vastly different. This is exactly we are not a fan of filter lights, they are great in polluted countries but in the UK, it can result in you changing the filter much earlier than necessary. We have created a filter replacement calculator to give you a rough idea of when you need to change your filter but it has caveats: It is based on running the purifier at top speed only (good news is that the filter can last even longer on slower speeds) and is based on countrywide averages. As the air in London is very different to the air in the Scottish Highlands, this calculator should be used as a guideline only. https://smartairfilters.com/en/when-change-hepa-filter/

In the UK, the SA700 ships with the H14 filter as standard. H14 is the highest HEPA classification available, the same standard used in hospitals and cleanrooms. You can choose to buy the E11 replacement filters separately if higher CADR and airflow are preferred.

Why does the SA700 use 9 fans instead of one large fan?

The SA700 uses 9 high static pressure PC fans to improve airflow efficiency and reduce noise. This design provides:

  • Lower fan speeds and quieter operation
  • More even airflow across the filter surface
  • Reduced airflow dead zones
  • Continued operation even if one fan fails
Is the carbon filter available for this unit?

Yes, the carbon filter is available for the SA700. An optional 750 g granular activated carbon filter is available to help adsorb VOCs (volatile organic compounds) and reduce unwanted odours.

Why doesn’t the SA700 have a built-in air quality monitor?

Just like all our purifiers, we’ve taken the conscious decision not to put an air quality monitor in the SA700. The reasons for this are described in this article. We still recommend a standalone air quality monitor that can be moved around independently of the air purifier.

Can this be wall-mounted?

The SA700 can be wall or ceiling mounted. You can choose to add on the fixing brackets and a longer cable (2.5 m).

How far from the wall should the SA700 be placed/installed?

For placements or wall-mounted installations, Smart Air recommends maintaining approximately 15 cm of clearance from the wall.

Do you offer discounts for larger orders, and can you arrange installation?

Orders of 5 or more units qualify for bulk pricing - contact us with your requirements and we'll provide a tailored quote.

Professional installation is available for orders of 5+ units at £60 per unit(ex VAT). If you need fewer than 5 units installed, we can still help — pricing for smaller installations is bespoke, so please get in touch with our sales team at [email protected].

Note that installation is not currently available across all UK postcodes; please check with us before ordering.

Is the SA700 easy to maintain?

Yes. The SA700 is designed for simple maintenance. It also comes with 1 year warranty, for any issues please email us at [email protected]
