When we designed the QT3, we aimed for maximum CADR (clean air delivery rate) of a portable air purifier, while doubling it up as a cooling fan.
Air multiplier technology improves the CADR
Companies like Dysons also use this technology for their purifiers. Our tests and data show that keeping a small space between the filter and the side wall actually increased clean air and CADR and encourages air mixing, making it ideal for reducing particulates in a room or confined space like a car.
Having a cooling fan that blows 'clean, filtered air' makes the QT3 travel purifier really useful for a lot of the countries we sell in but in the UK, we learned that less people needed a cooling fan and more people wanted COVID protection. So in countries with higher COVID rates, the gap between the filter and the fan was unnerving, especially if youโre concerned about sitting downstream from a COVID carrier.

Twitter was abound with hacks such as sealing the gap with tape - we listened to those comments...
We pride ourselves on being different from other manufacturers so we took on board the comments and ran multiple tests to see how we could adapt this for countries with different requirements.
By not using CADR as a measure, closing the gap is more effective at clearing the air of particles. More information on the data will follow but at 50cm, the effectiveness of filtering PM0.3 microns was 43.1% with no gap, vs 25.3% with a gap.
The QT3 portable air purifier just got personal!
After months of testing, we developed side strips that simply clip on to the front of the filter to close the gap. This option means no changes to the existing QT3 and filters and, more importantly, keeps this low cost.
In the UK, we are sending side strips with all new purchases of QT3 travel purifiers. Existing customers can get in touch with the company they purchased from, quoting the order number, and the side strips will be sent free of charge.
