Indoor air is important in all living and workspaces, but even more so in hospitals, where high quality air filtration is not just important for the removal of particulate matter, but also for the removal of bacteria and viruses.
Philippine hospitals have a history of installing the “cross flow hood” design high efficiency particulate air (HEPA) filtration system into operating theatres to provide a very high level of air filtration. The same level of air filtration can be achieved using high-capacity standalone air purifiers equipped with an H13 grade HEPA filter.
Smart Air Philippines has supplied high-capacity air purifiers to over 130 hospitals in the Philippines, including Asian Hospital, Makati Doctors, National Kidney Transplant Institute, Philippine General Hospital and Chinese General hospital. Over 1,000 Blasts and Blast Mini air cleaners have been supplied to hospitals across the Philippines.

The installed capacity is measured in air changes per hour (ACH) and varies within the hospital depending on the nature of the area. For example:
- Operating theatre: 15 to 20ACH
- Recovery room, chemotherapy treatment area and other critical areas: 12 – 15ACH
- Labour and emergency wards: 8 ACH.
Given that the particulate matter level of 2.5 micron and below in size (PM2.5) in most Philippine metro areas is 2 to 4 times higher than the WHO exposure limit standard, air filtration is a must for indoor air quality just to remove the fine particulate matter. In the hospital setting, the filters also provide infection control and biosecurity through removal of bacteria and viruses.
