Cleaner air in schools and universities can reduce staff and pupil absences and improve test scores
As well as reducing absences from allergens, hay fever and infections, it can also increase their test scores:
- Math scores went up by 0.20 and English scores by 0.18 standard deviations in US schools with air purifiers
- London School of Economics looked at university students’ test performance. Taking a test in a filtered rather than unfiltered room would raise test scores by 0.09 standard deviations
- Healthy Shanghai university students had significantly lower inflammation in their blood vessels, lower blood coagulation (a marker of blood clotting) and less constricted blood veins after 48 hours with an air purifier
