Clean air in Offices & Institutions | Open-plan offices | Meeting rooms | Breakout rooms | Cafeterias
Modern offices are the ideal workspace for many service-related occupations, with open-plan spaces gradually replacing individual offices. An office-based employee will spend the majority of their daily lives in the workplace so it is really important to ensure you are providing safe indoor air.
The air in your office might not be as clean as you think:
- VOCs from office equipment like servers and photocopiers;
- VOCs from cleaning products;
- High community infection rates.

You need filtration for good indoor air quality
Ventilation is crucial for bringing in fresh air to lower CO2 levels and to dilute particles, including allergens and viruses, but it doesn't remove it. You need filtration for this. Upgrading mechanical ventilation can be hugely costly and disruptive to your business, plus it increases your running cost and carbon footprint.
Adding filtration is substantially cheaper both upfront and running/maintenance so is the sustainable choice. Our high performance, versatile, portable air cleaners are ideal for large office spaces.

The Smart choice for Zomato
In December 2018, Zomato moved into their new 100,000 square foot office in Gurgaon, just outside New Delhi. Recent painting, new carpets, and remodelling work meant the Zomato team was facing problems with volatile organic compounds (VOCs) like formaldehyde and benzene. Along with Delhi’s and Gurgaon’s persistently high PM2.5 levels, Zomato needed to solve the serious indoor air pollution issues in order to protect the health of their team and increase productivity.
Smart Air came up with a plan that would realise Zomato’s goals without requiring a single change to the office building’s infrastructure:
- Reduce tVOC and formaldehyde levels prior to the team occupying the building with formaldehyde ‘bake-offs’ over 3-4 days
- Filtering of outdoor air brought in by the Air Handling Units (AHU) with 18 standalone Blast HEPA H13 air cleaners in the 9 AHU rooms with the air outlet facing the AHU inlet
- Whole office air filtration would be achieved with additional portable air cleaners across all 4 floors
- Air quality monitors were installed across all floors with the option of live data streaming on plasma screens in the reception area to raise awareness
Smart Air ran 6 audits at the Zomato workspace over the course of 21 days to measure and evaluate the effectiveness of this clean air solution.
The data was conclusive: in just 21 days, the Blast air purifier solution reduced PM2.5 by 87%, formaldehyde by 82%, and VOCs by 93% on average across the entire Gurgaon office space.

Expert Opinion
Simon Pallant, Spiralite/Khansaheb Industries, said: “As companies encourage their employees to return to the office, it’s becoming more and more important that the working environment is comfortable, airy and clean – all of which are vital to a healthy and productive workforce.
“Indoor air quality has become a real talking point in the UK and there is mounting pressure on companies and the Government to make improvements that will safeguard people across the country. Noxious gases, cancer-causing chemicals, and pathogens such as viruses, bacteria and moulds are increasingly causing health problems, and improving indoor air quality in buildings is one simple way to minimise these dangers.”
