Cigarettes produce both VOCs and PM2.5. Therefore, a device that is able to measure VOCs and PM2.5 would be best suited for measuring air quality nearby smokers. However, it’s worth noting that VOC detectors are not very accurate, and the primary pollutant from cigarettes is particulates (PM2.5). That means a PM2.5 air quality monitor will do almost as well at telling you the air quality around smokers!
