The pleated HEPA design (folding into a zig-zag shape) allows for a larger area of HEPA filter material to be used in air purifier filters. The larger area means the purifier is able to filter out more air in one go, improving its effectiveness. A pleated HEPA design gives a higher CADR compared to one single layer filter.
